Filipinos are rice eaters. But were you able to experience eating viand without rice? Sounds awkward. A Chinese proverb states, “without rice, even the cleverest housewife can’t cook” yet this proverb is definitely true for us Filipinos. Dried fish can never be complete without rice and we can’t even enjoy the richness of sour soup without the complement of rice. Greatest health is wealth, so we should take care of our health by eating right. And as long as we have foods on our tables, we should be thankful for it because we will never know when it will end.
Unfortunately, there are some reasons why we experience the so-called shortage or the decrease of the production of rice. Examples of these are the typhoons that come and go and leave the farmer’s agricultural crops damaged. According to Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, farmers have to start the planting season at least a month before the regular planting time to ensure that all crops are already harvested before the typhoon months. But then, the problem is we never know when the typhoons will come. So as of now that we’ve got enough production of rice, let us practice to save every single granule of it and know the importance of each. Coz for sure, each and every granules will be remembered if and only if we don’t have any food to put in our mouths.

I tried not eating rice for a couple of days and I ended up craving for it.. So now I see to it that I eat rice at least a cup a day! Indeed, rice is the number one staple food for us Filipinos..
